About the ADC Written Examination
The ADC Written Examination is a computer-based, scenario-based assessment conducted at Pearson VUE centres worldwide. It is held twice per year, typically in March and September. The exam consists of 280 scenario-based multiple-choice questions divided into four two-hour sections across two consecutive days.
Questions are not designed to test fact recall alone — they test clinical judgement and reasoning relevant to Australian dental practice standards. Candidates must demonstrate an ability to apply dental science knowledge across scenarios that reflect the scope and expectations of the Australian dental healthcare environment.
Before sitting the written examination, candidates must complete the ADC Initial Assessment, which verifies eligibility and documentation. Processing time for the initial assessment can take up to eight weeks. The written examination result is valid for seven years.
