About the ORE Part 1

The GDC Overseas Registration Examination Part 1 is a written examination testing dental science knowledge. It consists of two papers — Paper A and Paper B — each containing single best answer (SBA) and extended matching questions (EMQ). The exam tests knowledge of the dental sciences including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, microbiology, pathology, dental materials, and clinical dental disciplines.

From 2026, the LDS (Licence in Dental Surgery) examination from the Royal College of Surgeons provides an alternative written route to GDC registration. Both ORE Part 1 and LDS Part 1 test the same broad dental science knowledge base.
