Cervical Fascia Cross Section

A detailed axial section of the neck at the level of the thyroid gland, labelling platysma, sternocleidomastoid, the infrahyoid strap muscles, the trachea, oesophagus and thyroid, the carotid sheath and its contents, the scalene and deep back muscles, and the cervical vertebra.

Use this section with the fascia layers diagram to build a three-dimensional picture of the neck. It is useful for questions about the relations of the thyroid gland and recurrent laryngeal nerve, the contents of the carotid sheath, and the location of structures palpated during a head and neck examination. Cross-sectional anatomy also helps when reading CBCT and CT images that extend below the mandible.
